Where the redwoods meet the Monterey Bay
Experience the diversity of the Santa Cruz community...
UC Santa Cruz is often cited as one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world. The physical setting combines beautiful architecture with the natural surroundings of dense redwood-ladened forests, home to natural wildlife such as deer, wild birds, and coyotes, with striking views of the Pacific Ocean and frequent sightings of playful sea life including whales, otters, seals and dolphins.
The campus is composed of 10 unique colleges, each designed to incorporate the natural surroundings and to facilitate student learning and foster a strong sense of community. The colleges each have residential space (apartments or residence halls), dining facilities nearby, and meeting space. Field space, gym, dance studio, tennis courts, basketball courts, and outdoor pool are available through our physical fitness center, OPERS. The campus also hosts a number of on-campus and off-campus attractions, including the nearby Boardwalk, Monterey Bay charters, shuttles to nearby Silicon Valley, and shuttles to the stunning Big Sur, Carmel, and Monterey area.
